How it works

Use the rename preview to adjust the filename by multi-selecting the extracted feature values as needed.

The rename History allows you to browse all extracted document features and rename already renamed document files again.

Other Apps may allow specifying patterns using regular expressions to rename parts or the entire name of one or more files. However, they do not analyze the content of a file and extract metadata - such as with OCR (Optical Character Recognition) and NER (Named Entity Recognition) - the way DocNameBuddy does.

By uploading a document that may contain sensitive data, the data is exposed online and could be misused, sold, or stolen. DocNameBuddy performs the entire processing of a document using offline AI on your local system.

Renaming based on content is a complex task. DocNameBuddy combines text recognition, entity recognition, and layout analysis to determine the optimal filename. In the business environment, similar solutions exist (usually as a byproduct of expensive enterprise solutions). Private users, small business owners, freelancers, and small companies (up to 10 employees, max. 1 million in revenue) can, at an affordable cost, not only rename document files but also manage them after renaming (re-rename, open, search in the extracted features). This can have several reasons:
- Is sufficient quota available? The quota for physical renaming must be obtained via the quota add-on (purchase possible within the app). Without quota, only logical renaming occurs. With quota, these files can be physically renamed later via the renaming history. Without quota, the filename can also be copied to the clipboard via the renaming history (to rename the respective file in the file explorer).
- If the recognition of document content (components) fails and no features are identified, no renaming takes place.
- The actual renaming cannot occur if the file cannot be written to (because it is open or required permissions are missing). The file is then logically renamed and can be physically renamed later (see above).
